Society of Plastic Engineers - "Recognition Corner"
October 2003, Page 6
Editor's Note: This month's special person is a very interesting, dedicated volunteer of many moons in Chicago Section! Please take a moment at our next meeting and say "Hi!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skip Glatt President of G.A.I.M. Engineering, Inc. has been around the Chicago Section since 1978 after returning from California. Skip worked for both Southwest and West Coast molders, then came to Chicago to join the family molding business, Keolyn Plastics, Inc. where Skip was the fourth SPECS President to surface following Jack Glatt, Ed Glatt, and Rich Lane.
He served the Board in technical meetings, education and then ran for the Executive Board whereby he served as Section President in 1986. Always involved in education, and Topcons (Topical Conferences), was recruited by Skip Moberg from Wisconsin to join at the Divisional level with the Mold Making / Mold Design Division while remaining an industrious injection molder. Skip currently serves as the Finance Chairman for Chicago Section and sits on the Chicago S.P.E. Educational Foundation. As the Educational Foundation's former President after Ken Dahl, Skip has been on the committee and works behind the scenes on the Suppliers Expo, Suppliers night and now our new silent auction in May. He has always given back to the industry, which has given him so much. Summer internships, radio and T.V. live tours and recruiting full-time employment for State graduates, keeps the cycles in full turn for Skip.
Over the years, the ability to deal with scrap resin has lead G.A.I.M. to State and International awards of achievement, along with recognition by governmental agencies to award his business three consecutive grants. His company creates products, gets clients to market, drop ships, and provides material formulation / compounding in house for each event. G.A.I.M. subsidizes tooling expenses, molds without order and provides same day J.I.T. supply without written order. Inventories are owned and held with effortless release.
G.A.I.M., Skip Glatt and its recycling efforts will be there for the students, community and the good of the Chicago Section. Totally focused on their position with the State of Illinois, relation of loyalty to clients, welfare to their employees, closeness with vendors and providing value domestically and internationally Skip Glatt will remain heavily involved to help serve the Section and provide financial support as seen with his ten-year pledge.
Skip hopes all will hear about, and attend the new Suppliers "EXPO". The newly reformatted event, held in February, will now be a 1pm 9pm program allowing the afternoon and evening for Exhibitions. (Watch the SPECS News for more information coming soon.)
Now an empty nester, his wife Susan (who runs her business full time) has just had her best Mary Kay year, and her best golf season. “We both spend our free time together, and love our 28+ years together”. Weekdays, they remain focused on their businesses and work through each weekday, and then cool off for a weekend of family, friends and fun.
